Historical building: Fishermen's Association Zhengbin Building

The Keelung Fishermen's Association Zhengbin Building is a building located in Zhongzheng District, Keelung City. Built in 1934, it was originally named the Fisheries Museum during the Japanese occupation and owned by the Keelung Fisheries Branch. It is one of the few well-preserved fishing buildings from the Japanese colonial period in Keelung City. After World War II, the Fisheries Museum was taken over by the Republic of China Navy and later acquired by the Keelung District Fishermen's Association, becoming its office building and being renamed the Keelung Fishermen's Association Zhengbin Building. In 2015, the Keelung District Fishermen's Association donated the Keelung Fishermen's Association Zhengbin Building to the Keelung City Government. The Keelung Fishermen's Association Zhengbin Building is now listed as a historical building in Keelung City.

Originally named the Fisheries Hall, the Zhengbin Building of the Fisheries Association was the most important fisheries administrative center next to Keelung Fishing Port during the Japanese occupation. It was built in 1934 with a loan of 400,000 yen from the Bank of Taiwan by the Taipei State Fisheries Association. It was completed and opened in 1935. The loan was repaid by taking 2.6% of the sales revenue from the catch. The Fisheries Hall was used by many units, including the Taiwan Fisheries Association's Fish Market Office, the Petition Inspection Office, the State Fisheries Experiment Station, etc. It also had a post office, canteen, specimen room, and a meteorological observation station and signal station on the roof. There was a fish market, a coral market, a fisheries radio station and a cold storage next to it. The Taipei State Fisheries Association entrusted the Keelung Fisheries Branch to operate it.
