Keelung Fortress Command

The Keelung City-designated historic site, the Keelung Fortress Command Headquarters, a former Coast Guard camp with over a century of history, has been closed to the public for a long time. It has now been relocated, and the land and buildings have been transferred to the city government. The city government will renovate and develop an operational plan to open the site to the public for visits and revitalization. The once mysterious and impersonal military base has been transformed into a cultural market, featuring arts performances, creative stalls, and a vibrant atmosphere filled with music and the aroma of coffee. Cultural historian Pan Jiangwei stated that this site was formerly the highest military command center in northern Taiwan, with the inscription "Southeast Barrier" hanging above it, highlighting its crucial role as a strategic barrier for southeastern China. The existing buildings of the Keelung Fortress Command Headquarters were completed in 1929. Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Ma Xianyu pointed out that it will become an important educational exhibition hall for the "Greater Keelung Historical Scene Recreation Project," connecting with the Xuqiu Command Post, the Sino-French War Memorial Park, the Fortress Commander's Residence, and the officers' and their families' quarters to form a complete cultural heritage experience area. Renovation will begin, and the site will be opened to the public for use and revitalization.
