The new Keelung Station is a semi-underground building with two island platforms and four tracks. The ceiling windows on both sides help with lighting and air circulation, achieving energy conservation and carbon reduction. In addition, Taiwan Railways invited Korean-American artist Soo Sunny Park to create the public art piece "Brilliant Flow". Inspired by the mountain and sea city of Keelung, the artwork features rolling hills, undulating waves, and schools of fish swimming. It appears even more crystal clear under the sunlight in the atrium.
Taiwan Railways Administration stated that it used to take tourists 15 minutes to walk from the East Coast Pier to the station. After the completion of the new Keelung Station, cruise ships will dock at the West Coast Pier. Tourists can simply cross the road and walk for 1 minute to enter the station. In addition, the Taiwan-Matsu ferry and the Ho-Fu ferry, which travel to and from Matsu, will also dock at the West Coast Pier, allowing them to return home more quickly.
The original railway area will be transformed into a plaza. People can simply cross the plaza and then cross the road to reach Keelung Temple Entrance, eliminating the inconvenience of using overpasses and significantly shortening travel time and distance. People only need to remember the North Station Port and the South Station Temple Entrance to easily reach various attractions.
