The food district of Qidu Miaokou Market is centered around Zizhi Street and extends to Chongzhi Street and Nanxing Road in the surrounding area. There are many food stalls in the business district. In addition to selling unique snacks, these stalls also sell very cheap food. Classic delicacies such as Qidu stinky rice cakes, curry noodles, Miaokou egg pancakes, chicken noodles, sandwiches, and milkfish are all highly praised.
Arriving at Qidu Market early in the morning looking for a hearty breakfast, the "fried egg pancake" stall next to the Qidu Temple is your best choice. This stall's scallion egg pancake is a favorite among many students. The vendor first puts the pancake in the oil to fry before adding the egg. You can choose whether the egg is fully cooked or half-cooked. The golden and crispy egg pancake, along with soy sauce and sweet chili sauce, will give you a great start to your day.
Another famous food at Qidu Market that you absolutely cannot miss is the renowned "stinky rice cake". Just like Taiwan's famous stinky tofu, stinky rice cake may not smell very appetizing, but it tastes quite delicious. The soup made from pig's head bones is the source of its unique flavor. The soup is rich and refreshing, and the Hakka rice cake noodles fully absorb the essence of the soup, making them chewy and smooth. The owner's homemade chili sauce adds even more aroma. The side dishes are also excellent, with fried tofu, pig's snout meat, and radish being the best accompaniments to stinky rice cake.
Next up is the "Curry Noodles" on Kaiyuan Road, a must-try for many visitors to Qidu. The owner uses chewy udon noodles that absorb the broth well, along with crisp bean sprouts. Finally, they add curry made with minced meat, fried shallots, and various Chinese herbs. The curry isn't mixed into the noodles beforehand; instead, a spoonful is scooped into the noodles, which is quite unique. This stall's curry has a strong flavor, with a slight spiciness, making it very satisfying. It's a local favorite in Keelung.
Although Qidu is just one of the seven administrative districts of Keelung City, it is home to a great variety of delicious food. Many traditional Taiwanese snacks are available here, such as tofu pudding, stinky tofu, rice noodle soup, nutritious sandwiches, and Dongshan duck heads. When you come to Keelung, in addition to indulging in seafood, you might as well visit the "Qidu Temple Market" to satisfy your taste buds!
