The Yangming Marine Culture and Art Museum was originally built by Yangming Shipping Company. In 2003, the building was redesigned and renovated. Based on the concept and care of preserving the original and simple style and inheriting the marine culture, it was decided to build a high-quality space so that the public can understand the close relationship between the ocean and human civilization up close and in depth. It aims to guide the public to understand the spirit of Taiwan's maritime nation and the connotation of marine culture and art, and thus "love the ocean, get close to the ocean, protect the ocean, develop the ocean, and utilize the ocean".
The museum's exhibits are changed regularly, featuring novel and interesting content that differs from typical formal exhibitions. This enhances the public's interaction with marine culture. In conjunction with different exhibition themes and surrounding cultural and tourism resources, related activities are held to attract crowds. Through "edutainment" and "experiencing emotion," the museum guides the public to explore the vast and profound realm of marine culture, humanities, geography, and art.
The exhibition hall is divided into two main sections: a permanent exhibition area and a special exhibition area. The permanent exhibition area showcases a model of Keelung Port and a global container shipping exhibition, as well as the evolution of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation from the China Merchants Group era to the present day. It also features the first ship cabin simulator in Taiwan open to the general public, with sophisticated computer animations and simulated vibrations underfoot, allowing adults and children aspiring to be captains to experience firsthand the professionalism and sense of accomplishment required to sail a ship. The special exhibition on Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation's global container shipping network showcases the global container shipping network it serves, displays ancient and modern nautical instruments, and provides an experiential container shipping demonstration.
The art museum offers new exhibitions and cultural events from time to time, and welcomes people who are interested in marine culture to visit!
