Badouzi, located on a small peninsula northeast of Keelung City, boasts a superior natural geographical location surrounded by the sea on three sides, making it the largest and best fishing port in northern Taiwan, facing Heping Island across the water. Legend has it that it was originally inhabited by the Pingpu indigenous people, later inhabited by Han Chinese, gradually forming a fishing village. In the past, the sunset over Badouzi, with its fishing boats returning at dusk, created a breathtaking scene, known as "Badouzi Sunset," one of the famous Eight Scenic Spots of Keelung. Summer nights, accompanied by the twinkling lights of boats, were even more enchanting. In fact, whether it's dawn, dusk, or night, Badouzi offers a constantly changing charm, making it a place visitors long to return to.
Badouzi Beach now features Badouzi Park, with well-maintained trails, pavilions, and viewing platforms. Besides enjoying the scenery of Keelung Island, gazing at the vast ocean and feeling the gentle sea breeze is truly invigorating. The coastline boasts numerous sea-eroded landforms, such as sea platforms, sea cliffs, and sea trenches, with various strangely shaped rocks inspiring endless imagination. However, caution is advised when playing along the coastline, as there is a risk of sea cliff collapses. In spring and autumn, one can observe migratory birds and their colorful plumage. Walking along the trails, one is surrounded by lush green grass, butterflies, and birdsong, eventually reaching a secluded valley.
The park is filled with coastal plants. A closer look reveals their vibrant blossoms; their resilience against the scorching sun, sea breezes, high salinity, and drought demonstrates a valuable lesson in nature's survival principles. Leaving the park's colorful meadows, you'll encounter an abandoned bunker, standing serenely on a cliff edge, seemingly forgotten. Looking out from the viewing window, you can see all the boats coming and going from Badouzi Fishing Port, a testament to the bunker's importance as a former military stronghold.
The highest point in Badouzi Park is Taipei 101, named for its elevation of 101.1 meters. It's a rare sight in Taiwan, offering a 360-degree panoramic view, with each season offering its own unique charm. From here, you can overlook Jiufen, Fanzai'ao Bay, and Wanghai Lane, and also enjoy a complete view of the most famous headlands and bays in the northeast corner of Taiwan. Such magnificent scenery leaves one in awe.
