Zhengbin Fishing Port, located south of Heping Island, is a historic fishing port founded by the Japanese in 1934. During the Japanese occupation, it was Taiwan's largest port and a thriving trading hub, playing a major role in the early prosperity of Keelung's fishing port and serving as an important deep-sea fishing base in northern Taiwan. However, as fishing vessels grew larger, the port's water level became unsustainable. Although it has declined somewhat, it still retains its rustic charm. The Keelung City Government is actively developing it into a tourist pier focused on weekend leisure and nostalgia, hoping to restore its former glory.
Zhengbin Fishing Port's nostalgic pier was once home to a ship called "Folk Art Museum," which was Taiwan's first floating art museum. Zhengbin Fishing Port also hosted Keelung's dragon boat race, with various exciting activities such as egg balancing, a carnival, and a singing and dancing competition, making it quite lively. Not far away is the Tianhou Temple along the road, which was built during the Qianlong era, and its magnificent and solemn appearance is also worth exploring.
