Lover's Lake Park

Lover's Lake Park is located on the mountainside of Dawulun Mountain in Wailiao Village, on the western outskirts of Keelung City. It is formed by the confluence of six streams and is the only highland lake in Keelung. Although the lake is not very wide, the scenery is exquisite and beautiful, with a delicate and charming beauty. The surrounding area is densely wooded, the lake water is green, and the scenery of mountains and water is refreshing and pleasant. In spring and summer, there are insects chirping, birds singing, colorful butterflies fluttering, and migratory birds migrating. It is worthwhile for people to go on a date with nature.
Lover's Lake, originally named "Five-Fork Monument," was renamed after the China Youth Corps Keelung Branch frequently held activities there. The lake area features viewing pavilions, a suspension bridge, a waterfront platform, windmills, and hiking trails around the mountain and lake. The trails are lined with lush trees, showcasing the changing seasons. Visitors can enjoy a phytoncide-rich forest bath while admiring the picturesque scenery. Heading north from Lover's Lake, a trail leads to a sea-facing ridge. From the ridgeline, one can see the Aodi fishing port on the shore, as well as distant views of Keelung Island and Yehliu Cape, instantly uplifting the spirit.
Another explanation for the name Lover's Lake is that the scenic area contains two interconnected lakes, one large and one small, resembling lovers embracing each other. This has led to a romantic legend: the Lover's Bridge on the lake is said to possess a special magic, and couples who walk hand-in-hand across the bridge will find happiness in marriage. Because of this beautiful legend, many newlyweds specifically choose this location for their wedding photos. The uniquely designed windmills beside Lover's Lake further enhance the beauty of this legend.
Located directly east of Lover's Lake, Fortress Hill is not only the highest peak in the area, but also a historically significant region. The Dawulun Fortress (a national monument) on the hilltop was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty and is one of the important historical sites left from the Sino-French War. Many of the walls and related buildings have been preserved, and the intertwined old banyan trees around it add to the ancient charm of the area.
Lover's Lake Scenic Area is a must-visit for tourists from other places. It boasts beautiful scenery and fresh air. Nearby attractions include Dawulun Fortress, so you might as well include it in your travel itinerary.
