Jinlong Lake

Jinlong Lake is a small lake located below the Xinshan Reservoir, in the National New Town, next to Cuihu Villa and Changle Elementary School, at the confluence of the Dawulun River and a tributary of the Xinshan Reservoir. The hills on both sides are not high, and it is adjacent to Shicuokeng in Qidu District across the ridge. The original environment of Jinlong Lake was not good, but after renovation, it has become very tranquil and beautiful. A lakeside viewing trail has been built, with stone slab paths and steps, a southern pine boardwalk, a wooden boardwalk and a viewing platform, as well as leisure seats and dragonfly-shaped decorations. The facilities are suitable for all ages, making it the best choice for leisure hiking and ecological exploration.
The most distinctive feature of Jinlong Lake is its abundance of dragonfly species, totaling 54. Among the approximately 130 dragonfly species currently found in Taiwan, this accounts for 40% of the total. The lush vegetation of *Potamogeton crispus* on the lakeside wetlands provides an ideal habitat for dragonflies, and the many different species of dragonflies flutter about, making the surface of Jinlong Lake quite lively. Every October is the dragonfly migration season, and Keelung is one of their chosen landing spots. Migratory dragonflies such as the red-veined dragonfly, long-tailed dragonfly, and autumn red dragonfly arrive in Taiwan one after another, but few people know about this, which is quite a pity.
The banks of Jinlong Lake are lined with flowering trees, forming a beautiful green tunnel. Strolling along the lake and enjoying the scenery is the perfect way to steal a moment of peace. The lakeside is also home to the national treasure-level protected plant, the Bell-calyx Tree, as well as various birds and frogs, making it a vibrant place.
Although Jinlong Lake is located in a residential area, the scenery is quite beautiful and full of tranquility. It is a high-quality, quiet and ecological multi-functional leisure space in Keelung. By continuing uphill along the road behind Changle Elementary School, you can also reach the observation deck and enjoy a panoramic view of Xinshan Reservoir, which is magnificent and pleasant.
